The day of Jumu‘ah (Friday) is held sacred by Muslims. It came in a Hadith Al-Sharif as follows: “The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. Adam Aleyhisselam was created that day, he was put in Jannah (Paradise) that day and he was taken out of Jannah that day. Doomsday will come only on a Friday.”
Since Muslims treat Friday as an Eid (festival), they should care more for their cleanliness than other times. For this reason, taking a Ghusl bath for Jumuah Salah, applying nice perfumes, and putting on clean clothes is Sunnah and from the good manners of Islam.
On this blessed day, Muslims gather in masjids (mosques), listen to the Khutbah (sermon), pray their Salah, and make Dua (supplicate) collectively offering their needs to the Creator. In this way, they can establish a social bond and a form of Islamic brotherhood. After performing Salah, they continue doing other Ibadat (worship), visiting their friends or relatives, trading, or performing other activities.
Until the caliphate of Hadhrat Uthman (Radhiyallahu Anhu), Adhan was only announced when the khatib (one delivering the sermon) was ascending minbar. Starting from the governance of Hadhrat Uthman Radhiyallahu Anhu, due to the increased number of Muslims, a second Adhan out of the masjid was then called to notify people for the beginning of the time, which was called “exterior Adhan”.
To sum up, Muslims should appreciate every auspicious moment of Fridays, engage in Ibadat (prayers) and other permissible daily acts rather than wasting their time.
“O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu’ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew..”
